Rail Ready Crew

Three is a pivotal year. Children at this age are becoming capable, curious thinkers who can hold conversations, follow multi-step directions, and engage in imaginative play that grows more complex by the day. Our Rail Ready Crew classroom is designed to meet that energy with intention.

Pre-literacy skills are a major focus. We build phonological awareness through songs, rhymes, and word games. We introduce print concepts: that words have meaning, that we read left to right, that letters represent sounds. We tell stories, act them out, and create our own. Research from the National Institute for Early Education Research confirms that high-quality preschool at age 3 produces lasting gains in school readiness, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Math at this age is hands-on and playful. Counting, sorting, comparing, patterning, and simple measurement happen through blocks, manipulatives, cooking, and everyday routines. Children begin to develop number sense, an intuitive understanding of quantity, that will support formal math learning for years to come.

Executive function skills, including attention, working memory, and self-control, are also a major focus at age 3. These skills are stronger predictors of academic success than IQ, and they develop rapidly during the preschool years. We build them through games, routines, and intentional classroom practices that require children to wait, remember, and think flexibly.
