Steam Scholars

Four-year-olds are on the edge of a major transition. In a matter of months, they'll walk into a kindergarten classroom and be expected to sit in a group, follow directions, manage their emotions, and begin formal academic learning. Our Steam Scholars classroom is designed to make sure they're ready, not just academically, but in every way that matters.

Literacy is a major focus. We build phonemic awareness, the ability to hear and manipulate individual sounds in words, which is the single strongest predictor of early reading success. Children learn letter-sound correspondence, begin to decode simple words, and develop early writing skills through meaningful, purposeful practice. We read every day, and we talk about what we read.

Math at this age expands to include simple addition and subtraction concepts, measurement, spatial reasoning, and data collection. We use a hands-on, inquiry-based approach that builds mathematical thinking rather than rote memorization.

Our STEAM approach, covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, encourages children to ask questions, form hypotheses, test ideas, and reflect on what they discover. These habits of mind are backed by decades of research as essential for success in the 21st century, and they begin right here, in our classroom, with blocks and paint and magnifying glasses.

Social readiness is equally important. We prepare children to navigate group dynamics, take turns in conversation, follow multi-step directions, and advocate for themselves in a classroom setting. Children who leave our program are not just academically prepared. They're emotionally and socially ready for what comes next.
