A Day in Our School

Predictable routines help young children feel safe and ready to learn. Here's a look at what a typical day looks like at The Learning Express Houston, from early arrival through extended care.

Please note: This schedule represents a typical full-day experience. Specific times may vary slightly by classroom and age group. Part-time families will follow a modified version of this schedule. Ask us about your child's specific classroom routine during your tour.
5:00 AM – 7:30 AM

Early Arrival & Morning Welcome

Children arrive and ease into the day with quiet, self-directed play. Teachers greet each child individually, creating a warm transition from home to school.

7:30 AM – 8:15 AM

Breakfast

A nutritious breakfast is served in a relaxed, family-style setting. Mealtimes are social opportunities: children practice conversation, independence, and table manners.

8:15 AM – 9:00 AM

Morning Circle Time

The group gathers for songs, calendar, weather, and a read-aloud. Circle time builds community, language skills, and the ability to participate in a group setting.

9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

Learning Centers & Guided Play

Children rotate through intentionally designed learning centers: literacy, math, science, dramatic play, art, and building. Teachers facilitate and extend learning through observation and open-ended questions.

10:30 AM – 11:15 AM

Outdoor Play

Fresh air and physical activity are non-negotiable. Outdoor time builds gross motor skills, social skills, and the kind of unstructured exploration that supports creativity and problem-solving.

11:15 AM – 12:00 PM

Lunch

A balanced lunch is served. Children are encouraged to try new foods, serve themselves when developmentally appropriate, and enjoy conversation with their classmates.

12:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Rest & Quiet Time

Younger children nap while older children engage in quiet, restful activities. Rest is essential for brain development, emotional regulation, and physical health.

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM

Afternoon Snack

Children wake up gradually and enjoy a light snack before afternoon activities begin.

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Afternoon Learning & Creative Activities

Afternoons are often dedicated to art, music, STEAM exploration, and special projects. The pace is slightly more relaxed, and children have more choice in how they spend their time.

4:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Outdoor Play or Large Motor Activity

A second outdoor session or large motor activity gives children another opportunity to move, play, and burn energy before the end of the day.

5:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Wind-Down & Departure

The day closes with calm, quiet activities as children prepare to go home. Teachers share highlights from the day with families at pickup.

6:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Extended Care

For families who need it, extended care is available. Children continue with supervised play, activities, and a light evening snack.
