Safety & Security

Families trust us with the most important people in their lives. Here's exactly how we honor that trust, from the moment your child arrives to the moment they go home.

Safety at The Learning Express Houston is not a checklist. It's a culture. Every staff member, every procedure, and every physical feature of our facility is designed with one goal in mind: making sure your child is protected, healthy, and in good hands every single day.

We are a state-licensed childcare center regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. That means we meet or exceed the minimum standards set by the state, and we also hold ourselves to our own higher standard, because your child deserves nothing less.

Secure Entry & Access Control

  • Our facility uses a controlled entry system. Visitors cannot enter the building without staff authorization.
  • All doors remain locked during operating hours.
  • Only authorized adults listed on a child's enrollment record may pick up a child.
  • Photo identification is required for any adult not personally known to our staff.
  • We do not release children to anyone not on the authorized pickup list, regardless of their relationship to the child.

Supervision Standards

  • Children are supervised by qualified staff at all times: indoors, outdoors, during meals, and during transitions.
  • We maintain age-appropriate staff-to-child ratios in every classroom, in compliance with Texas childcare licensing requirements.
  • Staff are trained to conduct regular headcounts and visual checks throughout the day.
  • No child is ever left alone or unsupervised, including during nap time.

⚠️ Specific ratios are available upon request and are posted in each classroom as required by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Cleaning & Health Protocols

  • Classrooms, bathrooms, and high-touch surfaces are cleaned and sanitized daily.
  • Toys and materials are regularly cleaned and rotated.
  • We follow handwashing protocols throughout the day: upon arrival, before and after meals, after outdoor play, and after diapering or toileting.
  • Children who are ill are separated from the group and families are contacted promptly.
  • We follow Texas HHSC guidelines for illness exclusion to protect the health of all children and staff.

Emergency Preparedness

  • We conduct regular fire drills and emergency evacuation practice with all children and staff.
  • Emergency procedures are posted throughout the facility.
  • Staff are trained in first aid and CPR. [Please verify current certification requirements with your director.]
  • We have written emergency plans for fire, severe weather, lockdown, and medical emergencies.
  • In the event of an emergency, families are notified as quickly as possible through our communication channels.

⚠️ Items marked for verification should be confirmed with the director before publishing.

Family Communication

  • We believe families have the right to know what is happening in their child's day.
  • Staff are available at drop-off and pickup for brief check-ins.
  • For more in-depth conversations, we encourage families to schedule a time to speak with their child's teacher.
  • Any incident involving a child, including minor injuries, is documented and communicated to the family the same day.
  • We maintain an open-door policy and welcome family visits during operating hours.

Licensing & Compliance

  • The Learning Express Houston is a state-licensed childcare center regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
  • Our license is posted at the facility and available for review at any time.
  • We are subject to regular inspections by HHSC licensing staff.
  • Our inspection history is publicly available through the Texas HHSC Child Care Licensing portal.
